Final Project
Idea (Week 11 - 23/06/20)
For our final project, we are tasked to:
Develop a font that is intended to solve a larger problem or meant to be part of a solution in the area of your interest be it graphic design, animation, new media or entertainment design or any other related area not necessarily reflecting your specialisation.
or
Explore the use of a typeface in your area of interest, understand its existing relationship, identify areas that could be improved upon, explore possible solutions or combinations that may add value to the existing typeface.
Below is my proposal slides:
I presented my ideas to Mr. Vinod and Mr. Shamsul. For implementation of my first idea, I told Mr. Vinod that it would be a package with metal sheet and small magnets but Mr. Vinod didn't like that idea he asked me to rather do post cards with single letters and then a sheet with all letters. For second idea, Mr. Shamsul told me that it's an interesting idea but I don't have enough to implement it.
Problem
The problem that I wanted to work on is something that many parents face while teaching Braille to their visually impaired children. Even though there are typefaces that incorporate Braille, they are mostly used for marketing and commercial purposes. There are little or no typefaces that cater to parents who try to teach their children Braille.
Solution
My solution to this problem is to come up with a typeface that incorporates Braille which will in turn assist and aid parents to teach their children Braille without learning it themselves. My idea is to create a set of flashcards that have individual letters on each of them. These letters will be encircled around the language of Braille. Braille will also be embossed on to the flashcards through embossed printing making it easier to learn. Furthermore, attempts to combine braille with existing characters have been made by various designers all over the world. But usually these typefaces include capital letters but not small letters. So in this project i will be designing small letters typeface incorporating braille in to it.

Process
Below is my progress and the process of designing the typeface. I studied and dissected Futura and used as the reference typeface.
After digitalising my fonts, I added the letters in fontlab, set the kerning and render the font file. Below is the process.
Final Outcome
Collateral
I added colour to my font to present it on the flashcards. I used some mockups to show how the final product will look like.

FEEDBACK
Week 10 (16/06/20)
I wasn't able to take the class as I was facing difficulties with my internet.
Week 12 (23/06/20)
General Feedback:
For type that is smaller in size, the x-height should be bigger than ascender and descender. We were also told that we don't have to use Font Lab. Specific Feedback:

REFLECTION
Week 12 (23/06/20)
My experience was sort of bad since my internet wasn't working since the past few days and I wasn't able to focus all my energy on my work.
I observed that when I don't feel good internally, it shows on my work. The internet was giving me a hard time. And I had missed the previous class and that made me lack in the rest of my work.
I found that being present in all classes is very important to keep up to date with work but for that to happen, the internet connection and speed really matters.
